Hello, I am an bit of an amateur but can be semi technical with the right instructions. I have and Acer Inspire R7 that is Windows 8.1. I just replaced hd with ssd and upgraded memory as well. It was very simple. I then used my external hard drive that has my recovery on it. It all loaded fine and seemed to work well. I had upgraded to windows 10 prior with no problem but laptop was a bit slow so got another laptop which I am iffy about. So decided to update this old acer R7 one I like. It had been reformatted. But recovery went well on ssd and windows 8.1 seemed fine. Now I am trying to figure out how to get windows 10 free back on my laptop. I have found Create Windows 10 Installation Media - has a download tool which I used. All seemed to go very well until it got to the 73% install and got a box that said Windows 10 installation has failed. Never asked me if I wanted to update anything, it just went straight to Window 10 installation. I do have my updates set to let me pick what is to be updated. I have tried a couple fixes, restarts, etc... only with the exact same outcome. 4 x I have tried. I see your instructions above but they are just a little hard for me to understand. Is there a way you can do a more specific with step by step instructions? I am so frustrated as even this new laptop had no issue with windows 10 or 11 upgrade. I can't afford to have someone look at it. But I will keep plugging away as I feel I can figure it out with the right steps. I am wondering if the new ssd could have anything to do with it? Appreciate any help if you can.

Hey Kushik, I didn't get the 3. step. Like, where can I find the 'change on how Windows Setup downloads updates' button ? I can't find it anywhere on the Install Win 10 page. Did you mean in the MediaCreation tool's interface ?

After downloading this tool, you can proceed with installing Windows 10 or create a bootable ISO image on a removable medium. You can even visit this page from a mobile phone and download a Windows 10 ISO file, which you can then transfer to your PC.

Make sure the correct USB drive is selected, especially if more than one removable drive is connected to your computer. Click Next. The tool downloads Windows 11 onto your USB drive and then creates the installation media. When the process is complete, click Finish.

Want to go the DVD route instead? At the screen to choose which media to use, select the ISO file option and click Next. Choose the folder you want the file downloaded to and change the name of the file to something more specific, such as Windows 11.iso. Click Save and wait for the file to be downloaded to the selected folder.

While you can create an ISO using the media creation tool that you can use on the other computers it is simply faster and easier to create one ISO from the media creation tool. We have no idea if the BT folder contains all the files necessary

Second, you could use tools from a site called UUP dump to download the files from Microsoft's update servers and build a custom ISO that's fully up-to-date with an insider build that's even newer than release build. Finally, you can use Aveyo's open-source Universal MediaCreationTool to create an ISO that bypasses WIndows 11's TPM requirement.

2. Select Windows 11 from the menu under "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)." If you want to go straight to creating a USB Flash drive, you can download the Windows 11 Installation Media tool from here. See the section below for step-by-step details on how to do that.
