Sarth Dnyaneshwari is a Marathi translation and commentary of the Bhagavad Gita by the 13th century saint and poet Jnaneshwar. It is considered as one of the most influential and revered spiritual texts in Maharashtra. Sarth Dnyaneshwari is also known as Bhavarthadipika, Jnanadevi or Gita-Tika. It is written in a poetic form called ovi, which consists of four lines with a rhyme scheme.

The original manuscript of Sarth Dnyaneshwari is not available, but there are many copies and versions that have been preserved and published over the centuries. Some of the oldest and most reliable copies are those of Eknath (1533-1599), Rajwade (1863-1926) and Sakhare (1879-1962). These copies have been used as the basis for various editions and translations of Sarth Dnyaneshwari in different languages.


One of the most popular and widely used editions of Sarth Dnyaneshwari in Marathi is the one published by the Maharashtra Education Department in 1977. This edition was prepared by H.B.P. Nana Maharaj Sakhare, a renowned scholar and saint of the Warkari tradition. He used the Rajwade copy as the primary source and made necessary corrections and additions based on other sources. He also provided a detailed introduction, notes, glossary and index to make the text more accessible and understandable to the readers.
